Description of service
A 90 minute deep tissue massage, which cost $140; the additional $20 in the price above reflects my tip to the massage therapist.
The cost of my massage included free use of the spa's hot tub and sauna before my massage.
Review of Service
Deep tissue massage is hard to perform well. I was very satisfied with my service from this therapist, who was extremely responsive to my requests for firmer or lighter pressure. The massage studio was clean, cozy, and very calm, with relaxing music and a nice ambient scent from aromatherapeutic oils.
I generally don't talk during my massages, so I was pleased to work with a therapist who really focuses on the massage. When my massage was over, she allowed me plenty of time to get off the table and dress, and I felt more like an honored guest leaving a home than a client.
Tips
Shop around for massage. Ask for word of mouth recommendations and always check out a spa or massage studio before you commit to an appointment.
A good spa will be clean, calm, and relaxing with an inviting environment that makes you feel comfortable. Good massage therapists will be happy to talk about their work experience and qualifications, and they may also discuss their therapeutic style with you. Don't be afraid to try several therapists before settling on one, since massage comes in a wide range of flavors and it may take awhile to find the perfect massage therapist for you.
Many spas also offer free use of spa facilities such as hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas before massage appointments. Since this will loosen up your muscles, it allows the therapist to work more deeply and effectively. Ask if this is an option when you book your appointment.
