Description of service
There are weekly one-hour lessons for $60 per month. There is a one-time $10 registration fee. One also pays for the costume, around $50-$60, for the end-of-year show. Modern courses are for children from 7 years old and up, and usually, ballet is required as a co-requisite.
Review of Service
This is a professional teacher (still active dancing) who does very well with the children ages 7-10. The focus is on having fun, technique, and showmanship (as it nears the end show). The older the child, the more is expected- to that child's ability, of course. She loves dance, and the kids, and it really comes through in her classes. She knows when to push to another level, and when to hold back. She is very good at working the processes of dance, and is very product-oriented.
Tips
Always check out the studio you are considering. Observe different classes and determine the overall style ("flavor") of the studio, teachers' professionalism. Do the teachers like the kids they are teaching? Are they enjoying teaching, or more into showing their own prowess in dancing? Are they process or product-oriented? Depending the goals you have for your child, and the child's future goals, this will be important. Process-oriented classes make sure the child is having fun, and learning the techniques. Product-oriented make sure the child is learning the techniques, with having fun a close second. They are geared to children who want to continue for years and perhaps become professional dancers.
