Description of service
The lessons were 1 hour sessions once a week. Cost was $50.00 per month and we were asked to pay cash, no checks. This did not include the cost of dance wear dance shoes, or recital costumes.
Review of Service
This was a fun class for my daughter because she knew most of the other girls in the class. As far as learning the latest and hottest dance moves, I would say she did not. There were no competitions or teams at this studio. There was a recital each year in May. Depending on what classes were taken (jazz, tap, ballet) you also paid for recital costumes. Sometimes one costumes, usually two. These were usually around $50.00 each. Shoes were also an extra cost.
They learned basic dance steps and I sometimes felt the routines were repetitive and not very challenging. I believe it would have been a better idea to group the girls by ability and not by age. Clearly some younger students were more advanced and it seemed to either hold some back or make some look awkward.
I liked the instructor, but she definitely needed to get up to date with newer dance styles. Most of the girls wanted a hip-hop class but that never was introduced.
Tips
You can go to most studios with your child and observe a class or two. This should give you an idea of how the instructor interacts with the students. Ask about competitions. Some studios require that students participate and some give an option. Some studios require ballet classes for everyone so make sure to ask.
My instructor included jazz, tap and ballet in one class, but I believe most of the time these are separate classes. Example: jazz-$35 per month, tap-$35 per month, etc. So it can really add up.
Ask what dance wear is required.
