Description of service
The amount started at almost $50,000, that was charged by the hospital for a one week stay to treat Chron's disease. Luckily we do have insurance and the insurance knocked this price down to 11742 dollars saying that is the allowed able charge. Now unluckily our insurance does not pay the bill 100 percent. They paid the hospital 9313.60 dollars and the rest, 2428.40 dollars is our responsibility. We can not even afford to pay this in full so we had to setup a payment account with the hospital. It will be quite some time to pay this off, hopefully I won't need to go back to the hospital again at least till I pay for this stay.
Review of Service
I believe things like this make our health insurance system to fail. I do not believe the one person's stay at a hospital should cost this much, more then 1000 dollars a day. Not to mention that this is only for the bed and stuff, other expenses like doctors visits and test were separately billed and I already paid for those an about 1500 dollars. The quality of the service wasn't so great either. Nurses were performing the bear minimum without really making me feel that they care about me. The hospital doesn't have a bathroom for the patients. You have to wash-up using a tiny wash bowl. You have to have someone's help when you have IVs hanging from your arm but the nurses don't help you with that, your own family member need to come in for that. I believe for this amount of money they should at least provide a shower or have the staff wash patients daily.
Tips
Try to stay as healthy as possible. The price of medical care if out of control, you'll find yourself in the poorhouse if you have to get too much of it.
I wish I knew that there going to be doctors coming to see me on the regular basis and later on charging me 100 of dollars for their handshake. Next time I'll make sure to refuse any professional stopping at my bed unless I asked for them. I would advice everyone read their insurance coverage as careful as possible before they need to use it and check with the hospital where they'll go, what is the policy about that.
