Description of service
Recently I had my BMW worked on at a local dealer service center. In order to achieve inspection I needed work done on my air handling system which meant a air flow part needed to be replaced in order to pass inspection. I had that done, added new rear tires and had them make a few minor repairs to the pulleys on my idler arm of the car.
Review of Service
I don't believe the service was worthwhile. BMW dealer mechanics charge $110 per hour. This is the second time I've had my car in for service in the past six months. They were unable to diagnose the problem in the past. I suspect I'll have the car back to them in the near future for more repairs. I tend to believe that I'm paying too much for parts at the dealers also. I know that purchasing replacement parts over the internet is a much cheaper alternative.
Tips
My advice is to find a local, qualified BMW mechanic to work on the car. You may be able to save up to 40 percent in labor charges. Also, smaller shops tend to mark up replacement parts less than the dealer. If you're in PA, keep an eye on your exhaust system. We need to pass emissions testing nowadays and it's a very expensive part of your auto to maintain.
