Description of service
The bulb of my BMW 550i 2007 edition right side headlamp got fused due to unknown reason. I got it replaced at a local BMW dealership directly for about 310 USD which includes the cost of the HID/Xenon lamp (about 215 USD including tax) and rest 95 USD include labor charges and applicable service taxes. The charges included procurement charges and also disposal charges of my old bulb.
Review of Service
Since it was directly performed by a registered BMW dealership, the service was impeccable. The service center took my request promptly and allotted me a representative individually to handle the matter. Actually the service was so fast that they replaced the bulb within 30 minutes flat from filling out the forms, to actual replacement and delivery and payment. I am pretty impressed at their efficiency and their stress on importance of time and customers.
Tips
Xenon headlamps are generally much more expensive than standard lamps. There can be a varied number of reasons for the headlamps getting fused - shortcircuit due to water, manufacturing error, in a crash and sometimes due to electrical failure when the headlamp may be intact. Xenon headlamps give a much brighter light and are much better in fogs and rain and are preferred. Compare prices before you decide to get it replaced. Sometimes prices change even from zip-code to zip-code.
