Description of service
I'm embarrassed to say it, but I filed bankrupcy in July, 2006. My husband passed away in October, 2005 and he left me with almost $100,000 in credit card debt that I didn't even know about. He opened accounts in both our names and had the statement sent to his office. I was shocked. And he did it in less than three years !! I looked back over the statements and realized it was almost all cash advances at a casino about forty miles from where we lived. I also found out he was only working four days a week instead of five and wasn't visiting his brother as much as I thought. What a fool I was !!!
I contacted the attorney that handled his estate and he sent me to a bankruptcy attorney. I had to pay an upfront fee of $500.00 and that paid his fee, the filing fee and all court costs. I'm glad I had the money for that; what do people do that don't have it?
Review of Service
I had no idea bankruptcy was such a big business. The attorney I had only does bankruptcies. Every day. How sad !!
The whole process took about four months and it was all over.
He explained my options in detail, giving me the pros and cons of each choice, he gave me plenty of time to think it over, and he was always available for all my questions. He was soft-spoken, kind, and gentle to me, but a bear in the court room.
Tips
Only use an attorney that specializes in bankruptcies.
It's embarrassing, but painless and quick - ONLY IF you get a good attorney.
If they want an upfront fee - pay it !!! I had to pay $500.00. Scrape it up somehow, beg, borrow, (don't steal...) but get the money together.
The sooner you get this awful part of your life over with, the better you will be and you'll be able to start over.
