Description of service
I paid the lawyer's fee to help a friend file bankruptcy. The lawyer had been picked through word of mouth among different people, His fees were supposed to be reasonable and the process was to be quick. He was to file all the proper paper work with the courts and set up the court dates with my friend. My friend was to supply him with all creditors names, addresses and how much owed. For that he said it would be $800 and would take about 3 months to settle. Five months went by and no word from the lawyer. When finally reached, he said his fee had gone up to $1500. As part of the fee had already been paid, it was best to stick with him.
Review of Service
The service was bad, the lawyer did not do what he said he would. And he ended up charging more for the service. The time took almost a year to get it done. On the court date the lawyer did not show up and they had to continue it, which made the judge not very happy. My friend who was emotionally torn was even in worse shape because of the lawyer.
Tips
When choosing a lawyer be sure to check with the Bar Association. See if you can find out if there are any issues with the lawyer or the firm. Never sign unless you totally understand the costs and services.
