I was drowning in debt. The debt mostly consisted of credit cards and auto loans. The lawyer sat down and reviewed my bills, debts, income, and assets. He had forms to figure out what my net worth/loss was. I then came back with detailed statements from accounts that I owed on. He filled out more forms. After a short time, a court date was scheduled and the bankruptcy was discharged. He helped a lot with all the collection calls I was getting. After filing with him, he took all calls, and they stopped at my home and work.

I was very pleased with the services. It was direct and to the point. He told me exactly what I needed, gave me advice on when to allow the car repossessions go through, and didn't leave any questions unanswered. He handled all contact with the creditors, who had until this point been calling constantly. He also took money off what was owed if creditors broke the law by continuing to contact me. If creditors contacted me after the filing, and after notification with the attorney he got money from them. This money was applied to my balance with the attorney, and I actually didn't pay any money out of pocket for the bankruptcy. I was so pleased, I also used him to file my divorce later.

I would call around and see if any lawyers provide this service in your area. From what I understand, creditors must cease contact with you after filing the bankruptcy. Apparently, many do not, and when they didn',t my lawyer would sue them. They would settle, and he applied the money towards his fees. In the end I paid nothing for the bankruptcy and had some money left over.
