Description of service
I paid the lawyer a flat fee of $500 and $362 for court filings and various expenses. The price included optional credit counseling which I am currently taking advantage of.
Review of Service
I suppose this service was as good as bankruptcy can be. The lawyer we used was very understand and did not make us feel bad or like deadbeats. He explained all the documents to us and also explained all of our options. When we made a decision to go through with the bankruptcy he repeated again what exactly that would mean and reiterated that if we changed our minds there would be no fee. The paper work and dealing with the court was of course a huge pain. I've never signed so many documents in my life. However, our attorney made it as painless as he could. The credit counseling classes aren't that great. They are mostly giving me information that I know now that I've messed everything up. They basically tell you what NOT to do which is what I've already done. I keep going though because there might end up being something useful, who knows.
Tips
Absolutely make sure you find a lawyer you're comfortable with. If you got for a consultation and aren't comfortable, just walk out if you have to. This is a very important decision and it's imperative you find someone you can stand to help walk you through it.
