Description of service
In November of 2007, I received for a bilateral tubal ligation. It was laparoscopic surgery and the fallopian tubes were sealed via electrocautery (burning a small section of the tube). The cost of the procedure also included general anesthetic. In this case, my insurance covered the entire cost, therefore I don't know the specific breakdown of fees.
Review of Service
The bilateral tubal ligation (BTL) was performed in a stand alone surgical center, so I did save a bit of money by not having it done at the hospital. It was performed by an Obstetrician/Gynecologist whom I had seen for prior medical care. I was very pleased with the quality of care. The procedure itself was done very well and I experienced very little discomfort afterwords. As it was done via laparoscope, I have one small scar inside my navel and another one right on my pubic bone - neither one is bigger than 1/2
Tips
The best advice I can give is to make sure it is the right decision for you as it is permanent. Also, try to find a physician with whom you feel comfortable as that will make the procedure and follow-up appointment much more pleasant. Immediately after the surgery, make sure you can relax for the rest of the day as you will be sore and tired.
