Description of service
This was a one day seminar for beginners to learn the basics of candle making. We had some lecture time about the different types of candles and the variations that can be achieved through adding color and scent. Everyone came away with 3 types of candles. We made a gel candle, a honeycomb candle and a set of drip wax candles, where you dip the wick in wax repeatedly to form something like a taper candle. We also received materials with instructions to make other types of simple candles at home.
Review of Service
This was a very fun and informative class. I think it was just right for the complete craft novice - maybe even mature kids. I liked the information we got and the variations that the instructor discussed made it appropriate to higher skill levels as well. I really appreciated that since I have grown up around candles and my parents made candles regularly for Christmas gifts. For the cost, we got quite a bit in terms of actual candle supplies. Wax has become very expensive and I am not surprised that candle making is a hobby you don't hear much about anymore. Our teacher did a fine job and kept things moving so we could try several techniques and complete them.
Tips
Make sure you have a class that will teach you what you are interested in learning. Some of our classmates had hoped to mold candles at the class and were disappointed to learn there were other types of candles on the agenda.
