Description of service
The service started with a visit to make molds of my teeth from which to make the mouth guard. Then a second visit two weeks later was used to confirm that the guard fit, with some polishing and minor grinding of parts of the guard to make it comfortable.
Review of Service
I have had this service done several times, due to lost mouth guards or wearing one out. Good dentists will not just give you the guard and make sure it fits over the teeth well. A good dentist will verify that you can comfortably close your mouth with the guard on and that if you do grind your teeth on the guard, there are no sharp points or edges that can actually wear on your teeth or cause pain.
Tips
Get your teeth cleaned before having the molds for the mouth guard. Then it will be a mold of only your teeth, not any food or debris that may be in them. This provides an optimal fit.
If your teeth change, such as crowns or cavity repairs, you do not always have to have a new mouth guard made. As the dentist if new cavity fillings actually change the outline of your teeth, and if it can be corrected for by only a little drilling or cutting on the existing mouth guard. This can prevent you from having to get a new mouth guard sometimes after having had other dental work done.
