Description of service
Recently I had to have a mouth guard fitted at my dentist. I'm suffering from TMJ symptoms, probably from clenching my teeth as I sleep. I made two visits to the dentist. The first to check my bite alignment and to get fitted for the appliance. The second visit was to make adjustments to the appliance and essentially perform a final fitting. I've been back once since to tweak the fit. I was a little surprised at the price of obtaining this. I was in a great deal of pain and had broken several back teeth before obtaining the appliance.
Review of Service
The service was great. It was done rather quickly. I did however have to schedule two visits. The mouth guard is made of a hard plastic; don't confuse this with a sports mouth guard that an athlete might wear. It's also very easy to lose. They're small, you sleep with it in so it's easy to misplace, and very expensive to replace. One of the things that I had to get used to was to relax with the mouth guard in place. My dentist provided me with a few ideas on how not to clench my teeth.
Tips
Keep the mouth guard clean by soaking it in mouthwash every couple of days. It can get pretty gritty. Also, check for any defects soon after getting it. It's possible for you to chew through it while you sleep.
