Description of service
Due to grinding of my teeth while sleeping I had a one piece mold created of my upper jaw to prevent the grinding down of my teeth. This was a replacement for the first mouth guard I had for less than a year.
Review of Service
Once into the dentist's office, a mold of my upper mouth was created by the dentist. The dentist then sent the mold to the fabricator. It took about 1 week to received the guard back. This was an acrylic guard with a softer insert that allows for it to grip without metal clips (which my previous guard had). The guard has lasted about 3 times as long as my previous one (which I had broken from grinding). The lab was local and available to make major repairs and adjustments and the dentist was able to make minor adjustments in the office.
Tips
Because this type of device is paid for typically by the patient, the costs can vary quite widely. Likewise, the quality of the devices can differ from lab to lab and from doctor to doctor. Ask the dentist if the lab is local (this will allow for faster turn around for fabrication and major repairs) and find out if the doctor is able to make adjustments in the office. These are all factors which can add to the overall cost.
