Description of service
Back in the spring of 2006, my cat Marilyn was very sick. She had just come out of a heat and was not eating or drinking at all and was becoming very weak. I took her to my veterinarian and they did some tests on her blood, which all came back normal. They took an x-ray of her abdomen and saw a softball sized object. They asked if she was spayed and I said no. They went to take a urine sample and all the pulled out was pus. They determined that she had an infected uterus and needed to have an emergency spay right away. That is why the cost was so high. The infection posed greater risk and made a normal operation a lot more involved and dangerous. The cost also included antibiotics for two weeks, all the testing prior to surgery, and one overnight stay. The baseline for the spay was $750.00 but I wanted to give you the full amount paid since it was for one spay really.
Review of Service
The vets were wonderful with us and with Marilyn. They were able to spay her without collapsing the uterus and spreading the infection. She is now a healthy 5 year old with no health issues to speak of. I truly feel that spaying her was what saved her life. I felt the price was really high for the surgery but with it being an emergency I did not feel I had any choice in the matter. They did let me pay it over 10 months with post-dated checks worth $100.00 a piece.
Tips
Get your cat spayed as soon as she is old enough to have it done. Had I not waited so long, she never would have gotten the infection and my vet bill would have been a lot less. Plus, she would not have gotten sick! Also, take your cat to the vet as soon as you notice any changes in their behavior. Cats do not show that they are sick until they are very sick as in the wild they would be shunned and attacked if they showed weakness. Therefore, once the symptoms start, you are already running out of time.
