Description of service
The service recieved was the spaying of my female cat "Freya". Included in the price was follow up care for a visit in two weeks, two doses of antibiotic, and instructions for handling her following the procedure in the form of a pamphlet.
Review of Service
I took Freya in for her spaying at Nine o'clock that morning and was told I could pick her up by 5:00 o'clock that evening. The procedure wasn't to take any time, but they wanted to keep her most of the day for observation. The vet explained the procedure to me in great detail and assured my daughter everything would be just fine. She explained that there was always a small risk of death due to shock from the administration of the anisthetic, but beyond that the procedure was very safe for Freya. We left her in the vet's hands until our return that afternoon at 5:15. We were told she had slept all day and that we could expect her to be groggy on her feet for up to 48 hours. Indeed, we didn't even really need to put her in the pet carrier because she was still sleeping when we left the building. When we got her home she curled up on the back of the couch and never left that spot until sometime the next afternoon. The operation was a success! She had no complications that we ever observed.
Tips
I think the most important point with a vet is that you like them. Of course you'll want to assure yourself that he/she is competant, but following that I loved the way this vet assured my daughter that everything would be ok. She didn't lie to her and tell her their were no risks, but she didn't overstate them either. I reccomend getting to know your vet at least a little bit. Pricing counts for sure, but the extra human touch made this visit memorable.
