Description of service
We had our new male cat neutered and his first round of shots administered as well as the first month of a 3 month cycle of Advantage--the flea prevention stuff--put on for a total of around 35 dollars. This $88 charge also includes about $50 in prescriptions.
Review of Service
We took the cat to a vet we'd had recommended to us but I felt that we were intensely overcharged by them and misinformed on a number of issues related to the dangers of rabies shots. The cat was prescribed a number of medications--even though he was not obviously ill and we'd only brought him in to have him neutered--including one for which I was charged $40 (and found later online for under $5) which, I noticed when I got home, was clearly marked ONLY FOR USE WITH DOGS. When I called the vet's office to ask them if there had been some mistake, the desk staff assured me that everything was fine but refused me access to the veterinarian I'd seen.
Tips
I'm not usually a fan of buying medicines online but I definitely suggest price comparison shopping for pet medications as the veterinarian markup can be outrageous.
Also, make sure the veterinarian recommendations you receive are in line with your care style and willingness to spend. I found out later that the vet we'd gone to was notoriously overpriced but the recommenders preferred them for their attentiveness to the animal and 24 hour on call service.
