Description of service
I got medical care for prenatal services. Proper prenatal services should include: well check of the mother, blood work to check for any problems for the child, urine tests for prenatal diabetes, weight and size measurements for the mother. At least one visit should include a sonogram.
A visit should cost about what it did for me - $25 for a copay to the doctor and about $40 for lab work / blood work. These costs are usually subsidized by the health insurer if the mother has health insurance, and many government programs if she does not.
Review of Service
I received wonderful medical care from my doctor.
Tips
Doctors should discuss genetic testing with all parents. They should perform all tests necessary for the health of the mother and child.
Choose a prenatal care doctor who will be the one to deliver the child, so that you have continuity of care and familiarity with the doctor delivering your child.
A good doctor will not only provide the care you need but help pay for it, if you cannot pay for it on your own. Prenatal care is an investment in a healthy baby and prevents a high risk delivery.
If you want to know the gender of the child, discuss with the doctor having the single sonogram covered by most health insurers done after a date at which the child would be identifiable.
