Description of service
I pay $15 for a half an hour lesson for my daughter to take flute lessons on a weekly basis. This is a private lesson with her teacher, who is an experienced teacher of private lessons and who has finished her Bachelor and Master degree in flute performance. I drive my daughter to her home for lessons. The lessons do not include any music that she needs to purchase for her studies, and the sheet music varies greatly in price. Her teacher does offer longer lessons, and they are based on the price we pay ($22.50 for 45 minutes, and $30 for an hour). During her lessons, her teacher usually works on her flute tone, warm-ups, technique, etudes, and then usually some sort of solo where they work on applying everything else she has learned.
Review of Service
My daughter's flute teacher is terrific, and they work very well with each other. I really like that she encourages her with lots of do-able and yet challenging exercises to practice throughout the week. She has a very organized studio and policies, and she also does recitals for her students usually about twice a year. My daughter just loves flute lessons, and she learns a lot from it.
Tips
My biggest tip is just to make sure you research your teachers. Get recommendations from other people on good teachers and check their background and education. There are a lot of teachers out there who are not that terrific at their instruments, but just teach beginners because there is money to be made. If they are really good, then your child or yourself can learn the right techniques and ways of playing from the beginning, and not have to start over once they switch to a more advanced teacher. And remember, you are interviewing the teacher as much as they are interviewing you!
