Description of service
$45/half hour for vocal lessons from a former Broadway performer. My teacher had been in multiple shows and I was put in touch with her through my high school chorus teacher.
Review of Service
The service was fantastic! The teacher was very knowledgeable and worth the money. At first, I thought $45 per half hour was a little extravagant, but it really was worth it. My teacher had been in numerous shows and not only taught me how to use my voice properly, but also offered to help me with auditions. I now have a regular part in the Broadway show "The Little Mermaid". Without the guidance of my teacher, I never would have had such an opportunity find me! In fact, not only did my teacher introduce me to the people she thought would help further my career, but she also went with me to the auditions as she is recently retired form her job as a chorus teacher and helped me through that process. My teacher really listened to me and took into account what I wanted to get from the lessons as far as music choices went. She knew that I was interested in pursuing a career and so she chose pieces that might be suitable for any audition. In addition, she put me in touch with the musical crowd around my town to keep me in practice with community theater and helped me earn my guild card.
Tips
I would suggest looking for a teacher at your local school or college. Most of the teachers that are recommended have been checked out by the teachers at the various schools. This really takes the guess work out of their credibility and talent. In addition, many of the coaches teachers will suggest are former teachers themselves and that really does make a difference. The former teachers will do a better job not only in listening to what you want out of the lessons, but also in helping you to understand difficult concepts that might not be as easy to grasp as others. Also, while it was not my favorite part of the lessons, teachers are gifted at assigning appropriate, doable homework that will keep you in practice even when you are not in lesson. Also, while many of them are teachers, if you are interested in a career in voice, make sure that you find a coach with some experience in the field. In many communities, the acting people are fairly close-knit and if you know one of them, you know many of them. The help and advice is absolutely invaluable when navigating the waters of Broadway and other theater.
