Description of service
We enrolled our son in the local academy for a summer session in lieu of camp one summer. He was nervous about sleeping away from home, so this was a good solution for us. The class met twice each week and started with the most basic beginner moves and went on from there. It was a group lesson, but they managed to group the kids somewhat according the their progress and that enabled them to progress further than they might otherwise be able to do. The cost covered the lessons only, they needed to purchase their own workout attire and accessories.
Review of Service
We were fortunate to end up with a well run program that really taught kids the basics and a good foundation for Judo. Since we did this program, I have heard some stories of programs that are not well run, where the kids do not get much out of it. I think the instructor is the key. Our instructor kept the kids engaged and did not allow things to get out of hand. Judo is a discipline and that is what he taught the group, to be disciplined during class time. They had fun, but it was in a very structured environment. My son thrived under this disciplined atmosphere and learned a life skill as well as a form of exercise.

Get recommendations from other parents who have enrolled their kids in similar classes. Not all are run well with good results.
