the Cost of Long Distance Movers

I moved from San Diego to Chicago. I paid a long distance moving company to load a truck with my belongings, transport them to Chicago and then move my belongings into my apartment. I had a one bedroom apartment.

This was a terrible, terrible experience. First of all, I was charged more that quoted. I was told that my quote was based on the list of inventory that I submitted to them and that if there weren't extra things added to the list that my quote was guaranteed. I did not have additional belongings but did have to pay an extra $1200 more than the quote because it took up more room than they anticipated. It also took almost 2 months for them to get my stuff to Chicago. I had to live in a hotel the entire time while paying rent on an empty apartment. I had been told it would take no longer than 2 weeks but neglected to get that in writing.

Get everything in writing! Look around on the internet for reviews of the company you choose. If I had done this I would have found dozens of very negative reviews and would have paid more to get the job done the way I expected.
