Description of service
The lesson lasted one hour and included instruction on proper warm up technique and posture followed by how to work through difficult sections of music by breakng them down into smaller parts and then combining them together to obtain the desired result. Tips were provided on how to achieve a quality sound and how to practice properly to achieve the desire performance improvement. A piece of music was provided and sight read for study over the following week and that would be played for the instructor the following week at the lesson, for review.
Review of Service
The structure of the lesson was excellent. The warm up included lip exercises with out the mouth piece, with the mouth piece and then with the horn itself. The warm up emphasized the proper use of air and that proper preperation adds to a quality performance. The instructor was knowledgable and able to provide excellent steps that could be used independently when working through difficult pieces of music. Throughout the lesson tips were provided on how to avoid an airy sound, proper posture and breath controll, all of wich were very helpfull. On the whole the instructor was very knowledgable and comfortable giving advice and instruction that was usefull and beneficial for the student.
Tips
Make sure you find an instructor who plays trumpet not just knows how to teach it. There are many benefits to having an actual trumpet player for an instructor as their are many nuances that can only be explained and taught by an experienced musician.
Make sure you ask what the lesson includes, the length of the lesson and what approach the instructor plans to take with the student.
