the Price of DVD Rentals

I rented a movie from a vending machine for $1. It was a new release and I had the rental for a 24 hour period.

I was surprised when I noticed a vending machine style video rental place that was offering a new release for $1. I was required to swipe my credit card, then choose my selection. It was released just like food or drink would be from a similar machine.

The movie was in good condition and I did enjoy it. However, I ended up returning it about 2 hours later than the 24 hour period. The late return fee turned out about $6.95 per day. Obviously, I should have read the small print and made sure to get my movie back on time. But I was really shocked to find out that returning it only a few hours late resulted in a fee 7 times as much as the original rental fee. I will not use their service again.

You can get a very cheap rental for 1 day but if you have any reason to think you might not be able to return it on time you should probably just pay slightly more for a 3 day rental to avoid huge late fees.
