Description of service
Dental check up and teeth cleaning for my cat. Total cost was $250 by our local veterinarian. The actual cleaning is done by a veterinary technician, but the process is overseen by the vet and she does the check up.
Review of Service
My cat needed an annual teeth cleaning and dental check up. Our local veterinarian performs this service for pet owners, which was good because I have known vets who are not interested in doing this. Our kitty has her teeth checked annually so she does not have any problems, and the costs are minimal for this type of work. We know others who have pets with dental problems and they pay upwards of $700-800 to have problems fixed such as broken teeth, gum disease, etc. Our vet is very professional but takes time with each animal. She is very good with cats, as is her assistant. I think that is important because felines are not very cooperative when it comes to health procedures. Our kitty does not require much sedation to be calm, and that probably factors into our costs, as well.
Tips
My best tip is to establish a relationship with a good vet who does all the things that you will need. It's a pain to go to another vet for a specific procedure. I also think that it is best to find a very who specializes in small animals. I really don't want the horse vet working on my cat's teeth! Ask about all costs prior to making the appointment - and expect that there may be a few surprises, so factor that in before the appointment date.I also will not tolerate rude office staff, no matter how wonderful the vet is. If you are too busy to talk to me and give me good customer service over the phone, then I do not want to spend my money at that facility. There are too many fine vets in this area to settle for that!
