Description of service
Boat was bought extremely used and as a "fixer-up". We paid a contractor to replace and repair many things. He did everything, except the motor. To have the motor rehauled, we spent $1,300 from a company in Delaware. These repairs included: new fishing chair: $80, chair for steering $55; fabric to repair benches $65, plywood to repair benches $45, steering wheel $35, powerknob $42, battery $78, radio $119; rewiring parts $28 totally $547. Labor cost was $400 and took two weeks, flexible schedule for him. The engine took about two weeks also to get back. Grand total $2,247.
Review of Service
The contractor we used was excellent and did wonderful work. The repairs really helped make the boat look great, because the seats were completely ripped and worn out. The contractor was very honest with us through the entire project. He recommended he make the benches and not buy them. This would save us money by buying the material for the bench and having him do the work. He also recommended the brand of radio, because we had no idea what kind to buy.
Tips
Know your limits of what you want to spend on repairs. Let the contractor know the amount you will not go over. Boat repairs can go from reasonable to extreme. Be open to his suggestions and recommendations, because he could save you money. Be firm about your limits and make them very clear.
