Description of service
About two years after driving the vehicle around, the driver's air bag light kept coming on and off. I had brought it to the dealer to have it checked out, only to be told nothing was wrong with it. This happened on three other separate occasions, and I was told the same story. Apparently, every time I brought it in to have it looked at, the light would mysteriously go off. I was advised by the service tech that when the light is on, it means the airbag is not active, and would most likely not deploy upon impact. This being a huge safety concern, I insisted they keep the vehicle until they found out what was wrong with it. After receiving an un-comparable Dodge 1998 Dodge Caravan for two weeks as a loaner (at a 2004 Town and Country price mind you), they finally discovered what the problem was and corrected it. I was charged for the labor hours of the diagnostics and a wire that had gone bad ($350 total)!
Review of Service
I had two huge complaints: one is that they took forever to assess and fix the problem. I was made to feel like I didn't know what I was talking about because the light was not cooperating. The second problem, and probably the bigger concern, was the fact that I was making a $400 a month payment to get stuck with a 1998 Caravan. I felt the dealer should have provided me with a comparable car off the lot, especially after they put me through the wringer trying to get my airbag issue resolved.
Tips
If you are bringing your car to a dealership to have service performed on it, make sure they meet your needs as best as possible. I was not even being met halfway in my situation, so don't be afraid to let them know how you deserve to be treated.
