Description of service
The auto shop (specified by my auto insurance) replaced the bumper and the rear right corner panel with new parts, and checked for any internal damage at that time.
Review of Service
The shop did a reasonable job, but wouldn't take on "potentially related" issues the car had developed in the few weeks between the incident and the repair appointment. The insurance paid the price mentioned, I wonder if it would have been quoted to me if I weren't referred by them (and have no idea if it would have then been higher or lower).
There was a slightly delay (expected completion slipped from one evening to midday the next day), and the overall duration was fairly long (slightly more than a week) as they needed to order a part to complete the repair.
Tips
It is very important that new body panels be installed on one's car; the paint on the body panels is bonded with the surface during manufacture. Simply pounding out dents and applying topical corrective paint will never match the surrounding paint, and will end up looking hideous in short order.
The use of new parts versus old parts in general (for any sort of automotive repair) is something that you must specify when you go to get something fixed. If you are paying for the service yourself, you have the right to examine any replaced part, and take them home with you if you like. The latter is pointless unless you really think you might be able to resell them, but the former is significant (at least to request) to avoid giving the impression that they can replace whatever they like (including fully functional parts) and bill you for the costs, getting more profit in the markup on the part as well as in labour.
