Description of service
The air conditioner decided that it did not want to work anymore. I could not figure out why until I saw kids dropping things inside the outside unit. (it has a fan in it that spins when the AC is being used). I then realized that the problem was not from in the house, but from outside.
I called a repairman from a company I had seen on tv. He found that the unit had a part inside that was bent due to someone putting sticks, rocks and little pieces of metal inside of it. He told me that it doesn't happen often and that he would have to come back another day to fix it because he didn't have the part with him.
He had to open the unit and replace a major part inside. A job that took almost two hours to complete.
Review of Service
The man who did the work was incredible. He opened this unit, had to take several pieces apart and was able to keep everything neat and in order. The unit is right outside of my window and at times the guy was so quiet I thought he had left. That was a nice thing since it was early morning on my day off and I wanted to rest.
When he completed the almost two hour ordeal, he knocked on my door, handed me the papers I needed to sign and showed me what was changed and what to do if for some reason his work or the new part didn't hold up past thirty days. So far all is well and that is good because it is not yet hot, but it is really humid out here.
Tips
Try to find a good handyman that charges by the job, not by the hour. If you have a small task, by the hour is good, but even two hours can cost you more than the work is worth. Always shop around and don't hover, and don't bother the person doing the work. There is nothing they dislike than someone who hires them, then talks as if they could do the work better.
