Description of service
The service was to repair my air conditioning after it suddenly failed one hot day. I called the A/C repair company and was told that for someone to come out I had to pay $50 up front on my Mastercard to pay for the call out fee. Four hours later a guy showed up and pumped "freon" into the system and it felt much cooler (the system was old and need of replacement). There was a charge of $30 for the freon and a $20 labor charge and 8% sales tax giving me a final bill of $108. About three days later the compressor in the A/C unit started making a metallic clanking noise and a couple of hours later it was dead.
Review of Service
The repair guy did not show up in a timely fashion, which I thought should have happened for $50. But he did seem to get it up and running again once he got here. But there again I suppose the only thing that can go wrong with A/C is that it's not cold any more. I think the subsequent death of the A/C compressor was unrelated to the work that was done. I had been meaning to replace the A/C unit for the past three years (it was old when I moved in here). I just wished I hadn't paid $108 for three days worth of cooling.
Tips
If you have an old A/C dump it. The the new more energy efficient modern units soon pay for themselves in electricity savings.. and they are nicer to the planet.
