the Cost of DSL Internet Access

DSL service is provided through a hard-wired telephone land line to one desktop computer. There was no sign-up cost beyond the monthly fee and the DSL modem was provided free of charge after a credit was applied to the account as part of a new subscriber promotion. I chose to hook up the modem myself because it is pretty easy and I did not want to pay an additional amount for that. They also gave me a connector to prevent interference from the telephone line. I had to sign up for a 12-month contract to get this price and the free modem.

The service has been generally reliable except duirng particularly bad weather, when it sometimes disconnects and doesn't work for a short period. The price is competitive with other vendors and the speed of the DSL service seems to be consistent with the speed that was advertised when I signed up. I am able to leave the DSL line on all of the time and it is steady and downloads pages quickly. I have had to call for support once and the helpline was successful in resolving my problem.

There are only a few choices for DSL service, but don't just choose based on price, make sure that the quality and speed is what you want. It can be very frustrating to have to wait for a long download and if you going to pay for DSL, you might as well pay a little more for a faster speed.
