Description of service
The service that I subscribe to is DSL from one of the major telephone companies. The equipment that goes in my house (modem, filters etc. have given me no problems in two years. The service has also been great.
Review of Service
Three years ago I worked in an office that subscribed to the same service that I now have in my home. It was a nightmare. We couldn't get online, we couldn't stay on if we did get on, and the service people always blamed the problem on something else - bad computers, bad programming, bad installation, etc. My sister, who lived very close to my office and had the same service in her home, had the same problems.Neither of us could get out of our contracts without taking a substantial monetary hit. So when I wanted to put DSL in my home, I asked my neighbors what they used. They all use this same service. All of them completely without complaint. The only explanation I can think of is that we are discussing two different states, MO and KS. Maybe Missouri takes better care of their equipment. Since I considered the price of cable internet prohibitive I don't watch television, so that part would be a total waste) I hesitantly signed with my current service, in spite of all the trouble it was at work. And it's like a different world. I have absolutely no complaints with it at all.
Tips
If at all possible, find a month to month service, or at least a short term contract, so that if it doesn't work out for you, you won't be stuck for very long.
