Description of service
This is the price of a temporary employee that is a Senior Helper. We had thisperson go to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions if they use one that doesn't deliver. They drive and assist senior citizens to doctor's appointments. The person will run personal errands, light grocery shopping, maybe out to dinner if the senior wants to go for pizza, etc. Sometimes the person does research on Medicare and prescription plans, orders cable or handles other bills. The requests can be as different as the individual person.
Review of Service
It worked out well. Most Assisted or Senior Living Centers have outings to shop, go to doctor's appointments and have pharmacy deliveries. They will not help (usually) with resident bills, appointments outside the usual twice a week. So the Helper gets a flat rate of $220 and is not supposed to accept gratuity from the senior. Gas, parking, etc. is reimbursed with receipts. They keep all receipts, turn them in to whoever contracted them (adult child, friend of the family, assisted living personnel) and is reimbursed in cash. If the senior insists on giving them money, the Helper is supposed to spend that on the senior either by taking them out to eat or an Easter gift, etc. It works out well most of the time and the Senior doesn't feel abandoned or left without.
Tips
You need someone who will follow the instructions of the senior.
