This is a very straight-forward service. The people show up at your house is a special truck. They use a special tool to lift the manhole cover and then stick a big hose down into the septic tank. They then suck all the contents of the tank into the truck and drive it away for disposal somewhere. Then they re-cover your manhole and if you had sod over the cover, they should replace the sod so it looks decent. That is about all there is to it.

I have to say, the quality of the service I received was very good. The people were friendly and gave me some useful hints on keeping my septic system healthy. They were nice to my son (who was 5 at the time and very curious). They were careful not to trample my flower beds. I wish I could mention the name of this particular company, because they were so very good. .

The best advice I have here is, if you don't have a regular service yet (as I didn't when I moved into my house) then ask around. My plumber hooked me up with my septic company. You can also ask a neighbor who they use. If you have a septic tank, then you can bet all your neighbors have one, too! One piece of advice--get on a regular schedule of having the tank emptied.before it really needs it. When the tank gets too full, your toilets will not flush and the sinks will not drain. Don't let it get that far! .
