Description of service
I took my son to the orthodontist after being recommended by our family dentist. His two front teeth have always had a large space between them since he was young. He is now 10 years old. We went to find out what to do. The orthodontist took x-rays and then went over what he felt was needed. He wanted to pull several teeth, both permanent and baby teeth. He said that his mouth was overcrowded and that if he pulled the two teeth on top which were his permanent ones, he would then be okay to go with the braces. We didn't realize how much needed to be done. We checked with another doctor and he pretty much agreed with the first one so we went ahead. He has started with braces just one the top front of his mouth and then will proceed to full mouth.
Review of Service
I felt that the orthodontist knew what he was doing and informed us all the way. It did take us by surprise, since we didn't expect all that needed to be done. This was just going to be the first of many proceedures and we were surprised at the cost just for this. It was worth getting it done so that he can feel comfortable with his teeth. This was also affecting his speech which concerned us. Our son is feeling more comfortable after a few months and I do have confidence that the doctor did the right thing.
Tips
Before starting any work, check with other doctors to see what their opinions are. Always ask up front about the cost. You can ask if they give any discounts. Some do for cash, others will just give you a percent off. Your children's teeth are very important. They should always be checked by an orthodontist, even if you don't think there is a problem. I never had braces because the dentist said I didn't need them, but I know if I had had them, I would have been much happier with my smile!
