Description of service
Involved mechanic getting weep hole cleaned out (crawling under car with air hose), then purging ventilation system. Didn't perform AC service.
Review of Service
Overall, the service was fantastic. It was something that I could have done myself, but didn't have the time. The mechanic performed the service by climbing under the car, and using an air gun to clean out the weep hole which gets clogged due to dirt and grime accumulating over time. The car had really begun to smell like dirt and mildew. When the mechanic was done cleaning out the weep hole, he then used a spray can of disinfectant and turned the ventilation system onto "recirculate" to kill any bacteria or mildew that had started to form in the system. This cleaned out the system very well and the system has performed very well ever since. This was the same service that is performed by commercial organizations, at a fraction of the cost.
Tips
Knowing how to clean out a vehicle ventilation system can save you lots of discomfort (especially if you have allergies), knowing how to do it cheaply is invaluable. The mechanic I used was a friend who knew the ins and outs of the service industry and was able to assist at a real fraction of the cost. The service would have normally cost about $150.
