Description of service
Due to a large filling that I had done as a child falling out/crumbling out, I had to go to the dentist. There, after having an exam and X-rays done, my dentist expressed shock that I was not in pain. My tooth was completely abscessed, the root dried and shriveled. I had a root canal that day. A few weeks later, after obtaining approval from my insurance company, I had the tooth prepped for a crown. Then the tooth was casted so that the crown could be made off-site. A few weeks later, my crown came in and I had the crown put into place permanently. This was a three step process but just one price.
Review of Service
I love my dentist, and this service was no exception. She is quick, gentle, up-to-date on all the latest technology in her dental tools, and her prices are fair. The root canal was uneventful. I did not take much numbing, so it went fairly fast. The preparation of the tooth for the crown was uncomfortable and sometimes painful, as there is a lot of molding, wrapping, and grinding down of the tooth. I had quite a bit of swelling and pain, but the dentist gave me a prescription for antibiotics (just to be safe) and pain medication. The actual placement of the crown was quick and painless. She had to do a bit of filing to make the bite right, but other than that it was easy.
Tips
Do not be afraid. A lot of people are terrified of root canals and have heard lots of horror stories. Its not fun, but its also not as bad as I thought it would be. Feel free to ask your dentist lots of questions if you have them. Be sure to check with your insurance for coverage and approval too. Most dental plans cover root canals and crowns, but you must have approval for the crown.
