Description of service
I have had root canals before and recognized the symptoms right away. I contacted my dentist and was set up for a root canal. The price of the root canal is based upon having dental insurance where my coverage is 80/20. Without the coverage, the root canal would cost about $900. The root canal procedure is actually the least expensive part of the procedure. The crown is where most of the cost lies. Strangely enough, even though a crown is needed to protect the tooth after a root canal, my insurance company considers a crown cosmetic work.
Review of Service
I have been going to this dentist for nearly 20 years. A root canal does not have to be painful nor does it need to be a horror story. When done properly, a root canal, while not the best thing to have done, is often times no worse than having a cavity taken care of. My dentist is always very personable, friendly and professional. Throughout the procedure, he keeps me informed about what he is doing. He is always making sure I'm comfortable and more often than not, I'm all right.
Tips
If you need to have a root canal done, find others who have had the same procedure and ask questions about how they felt after the procedure. A dentist who has the skills will do the root canal and the main thing that may bother you will be the vibration from the drill, not necessarily pain from the drilling. I feel very lucky I have a dentist I can trust.
