Description of service
During a routine visit to the dentist, he indicated that I may have a problem with one of my back molars, so he took an additional x-ray and determined that I needed a root canal and a partial crown. I came back for the procedure three days later and it took a couple hours to complete everything, but it got done and the total charge including the amount paid by insurance, was $940.
Review of Service
I have been using my dentist for a few years, so I trust him, even though it is scary to hear that you need major work and it would be nice to get another opinion. In any event I authorized the root canal and it was handled in a very professional and responsible manner by the dentist and the office staff, who recognized that I was a little worried about the pain and the procedure. I really appreciated that they took the time to show and explain to me exactly what is a root canal, why it is needed, and the risks/benefits of the work. In the end, it was not as bad as I expected, and I was therefore satisfied with the service and the cost.
Tips
Even though you can ask people about their own root canal experiences, it is something that you just have to do on your own, and it is not as bad as it sounds if you have a good dentist that you are comfortable with. Check with the dentist's office in advance to see how they code the work for insurance purposes, and then check with your insurance company to make sure that everything will be covered in the way that you expect it will.
