Description of service
My grandmother had a lot of little things that needed done around her home that I did not have time to do and she was unable to really do for herself. My friend recommended I call this handyman, as she had worked with him and thought his rates were fair and he did really good work. He charged $20.00 and hour and worked for my grandmother for a 8 hour day over two days 4 hours each. He helped her to install a security light on her garage outside, hung up some new curtain rods and curtains, replaced a chandelier in her dining room, fixed a broken electrical socket in her basement, replaced some fluorescent light fixtures in her kitchen ceiling, and some other odds and ends around the inside and outside of her home.
Review of Service
I would highly recommend this handyman to anyone. He was really polite to myself and my grandmother and was quiet while he worked and very efficient. My grandmother was able to go about her normal daily activities while he did her "to do" list for her and I was able to feel safe leaving my grandmother alone with him while I could not be there and had to work. He charged a fair price we felt for all that he did. We are considering having him come back this fall to do some clean up after the windstorm we had last month.
Tips
With handymen, I feel that referrals from friends and people you know is very important. Handymen do not have to be licensed or insured, so you can never be too careful. I think that handymen are especially good for the elderly. I would suggest checking references and trying to get a handyman that is insured and bonded to be safe. Word of mouth references are best and follow your gut upon meeting the handyman. If you feel that he is untrustworthy, do not hire him.
