Description of service
I had a blockage in my kitchen's double sink - one side was the garbage disposal, the other is just a normal sink. They both seemed to clog more when I had the dishwasher turned on. I had dug down into the garbage disposal to be sure there was nothing clogging it and I had poured numerous sink de-cloggers down both sides of the sinks, to no effect. The water was not draining at all, even when left for several days ? it just ended up over flowing when the dishwasher was turned on.
Review of Service
I knew hiring a licensed plumber would be very expensive so I told a handyman about my problem and he said he would take a look for $40. After emptying the water from the sink and draining what he could by unscrewing the pipes under the sink, he then took apart the garbage disposal and found the problem: a hairy mass wound around the mechanism that stopped it from working. He cleaned it up and screwed everything back together, solving the problem.
Tips
I think it's important to get a quote from the handyman first. One quote for taking a look and another to actually solve the problem. I was lucky in that no parts needed to be replaced.
