Housecleaning services should not be considered a luxury. I consider it a necessity for families where both adults are working full time. I have kids and pets. Getting dinner on the table, laundry done and kids in beds is exhausting after a full day at work. Weekends are devoted to kids activities. If there is any free time left I surely don't want to spend it on house work. My housekeeper comes once a week. It takes her two to three hours to clean my house. She is well paid averaging more than twenty dollars an hours. If I tried to clean the house it would take me closer to six hours because of distractions. Paying the housekeeper $65 is cheap compared to me losing six hours of my time.

My home is eighteen hundred square feet. The housekeeper vacuums my area rugs and damp mops the tile and hardwood areas. She scrubs the shower, sinks and toilets. Counter surfaces are all wiped down and woodwork is dusted. The night before she comes all I need to do is make sure counters are clear and major clutter is picked up.

Ask your neighbors for house cleaning references. Some housekeepers will want give you a rate quote over the phone but most will want to tour your house. If your house is very dirty expect to pay more for the initial cleaning. If cost is an issue, do not deny yourself housecleaning services, instead as for a bi-weekly or monthly rate.
