Description of service
This class was for the very basics of knitting for beginners and began with general information about plastic vs. metal vs. wooden needles and the different types of yarns. Then we got down to the actual knitting part: casting on, the purl stitch, the knit stitch and casting off. There was also a very brief discussion about how to read a simple pattern and how to pick colors.
Review of Service
The class was probably a good deal for the price though I don't feel that I actually learned to knit. I did get a very basic understanding of the steps as described above, but I don't think that two four-hour classes was enough for me. Even though the class was for beginners, most of the other people in the class seemed to have at least some experience so I felt like the only one who couldn't really get it. I am not an especially patient crafter and I think I would have done better in a one-on-one situation instead of in a class with several other learners. I ended up feeling more frustrated than excited and I really haven't pursued knitting since the class ended.
Tips
Ask questions about the class beforehand to make sure it is appropriate for total beginners if you are one.
Know what your learning style is and choose a class that accommodates that kind of style.
Try to find other students who might want to meet and practice together after the class ends in order to keep up your motivation.
