Description of service
I decided to finally get swim lessons for my five year old daughter. A local instructor was referred to me by a friend. She taught classes at our community pool. A package of 10 lessons each of and hour's duration was negotiated for a full price of $250. Instruction included water safety, basic survival technique like treading water, use of assisting implements, and introduction to the basic swim strokes. Most saliently these lessons were to impart safety guidelines and survival techniques in the event of accidentally falling in a body of water. Initial forays into the pool always involved floaties, but by end of lessons they were able to come off under close supervision.
Review of Service
The instructor was very patient, kind and a great teacher. I have subsequently recommended her to other parties. My daughter immediately took to her and trusted and felt comfortable around her. This is a crucial quality for those instructing young children within a potentially scary environment. Previous fear of the water dissipated after 2 lessons. Most importantly, I now feel a greater sense of comfort that my daughter now knows what to do should she fall into a pool and would be able to make it back to the side.
Tips
It is important to find an instructor with whom your child feels safe. Ability to create comfort within the child is just as important as ability to teach actual techniques. Referrals from satisfied customers is often the best route.
