When we signed up with our cable provider we asked for all the premium channels. We figured we'd get good use out of them. It was $20 more than the basic cable service. We were getting a good deal. In the beginning, we watched those premium channels all the time. We were paying for them, might as well get our money worth.
Review of Service
The channels were great, we slowly started watching more shows on the basic channels and then figuring this out. We decided to cancel the premium channels and just stick with the basic channels. There was no point in paying for the channels we weren't watching very much. Had the premium package been at a lower rate we might have kept the package. However paying $20 a month for channels we watched on average once or twice a week we were not getting a good deal.
Tips
Call around to all providers in your area and ask for the rates. In my town we only have one provider so you are stuck with them, which means they can raise the rates and you either have cable or you don't. Don't go crazy overboard ordering channels you know you aren't going to watch just because you think it's a good deal.
