Description of service
I had Chemotherapy and surgery for Cancer of the peritoneal lining of the abdomen affecting intestine, uterus, ovaries, and bladder.
Review of Service
The treatment appeared to be delivered in a caring manner with all aspects explained with the pros and cons detailed. Surgery removed the cancerous tissue and nearly removed all. Chemotherapy was implemented - one week on and 2 weeks off. The Chemo staff were wonderful and caring. They put us at ease and made sure that not only our physical needs were met but our mental needs also. They provided massage, special teas, and kind words of encouragement.
Tips
Make sure to get second opinions. If you have any questions, make sure to ask them. If you are overwhelmed at the time, keep a notebook and jot down questions and comments that you may want to ask your doctor or the nursing staff. Get in support groups that can help you down the path of what to expect and to provide encouragement. Make sure family members are informed that you need them to also attend support groups as you are going to be at your own wits end and may not be able to be as supportive as you have been in the past. Family members need to know that you are fighting a disease and need as positive thoughts as possible.
