Description of service
Learned the basics of making a good dinner/supper meal of a single course, and a bit of dessert for fun at the end.
Review of Service
We started out with a nice sample of what we were about to make, a good 12 of us in the class in pairs of 2 to a kitchen. We then continued onto a basic review of preparation for all types of foods, knife technique, and serving to guests. Started off with the first course, a small bit of appetizers. Very simple to make with a great taste and the presentation was set perfectly on the lovely black plates. They were a sort of Mexican spring roll type dish. We then moved onto what seemed like an odd stage, which was a nice almond cappuccino. At first, most of us were puzzled by the choice for an in between, but it actually turned out to work quite well! And finally we moved onto the main course, which was this amazing Lasagna with a delightful Caesar Salad. The sound of it is pretty basic, but once we got into it, a lot of the pairs ended up quite confused at how complex the recipe was. Shredded beef simmered in a delicious cream sauce. 6 different types of cheese! 2 types of pastas. A list of spices and herbs as long as my arm, haha! All in all it turned out great, and the quick dessert was a lovely coffee cake, a great unexpected add on! The course was about 6 hours, and then we all went out for some drinks afterwards.
Tips
Check out the chefs history or restaurants he or she owns before signing up to get a good feel of the quality. If you know someone who knows a great chef, see if they have anything going on as far as classes go. If its with a school, make sure you arent getting taught by the class, haha! One of my friends had that happen once and was quite disappointed!
