Description of service
I had heard via friends that the grocery store that I shopped at regularly held interesting and unique cooking classes. I went online and discovered that they were holding a cooking class this month regarding gluten free foods. I signed up and attended the class yesterday. The class fee included the supplies for, preparation of, and eating of the following: Glazed Carrots, Roasted Pickled Beets, Hearty Chicken Soup, Chicken Wings with Sauce, and Sweet Dough Rolls. The class was taught and lead by a famous cookbook author and also taught you about living a gluten free life as you were cooking.
Review of Service
I thought this was just the best. I am not allergic to gluten, but have family and friends who are and wanted to learn about the issue. The teacher was really cool and she taught me a lot about what gluten is and how to avoid it but still have tasty food (gluten is used in SO much that I did not even think about!). The food we cooked that I ate was really fresh and tasty, although I have to admit I did not care for the beets and skipped the chicken since I am a vegetarian (I suggested they do another class that was for vegetarians). Overall, I feel it was worth the time and money and I would do it again, although I would look for a vegetarian friendly class next time.
Tips
These classes are a great way to learn new ways to cook and think and a great way to meet new and interesting people. I would recommend them to anyone who has any food issues or just wants to learn. I would suggest making sure, if you do have food issues such as vegetarianism, to be sure the class is suited to your needs fully. That is the one regret I do have, that I paid for meat when I don't eat it.
