Description of service
When my son and daughter-in-law got married, they wanted me to play the piano at their wedding. I hadn't played in years and the piece they wanted me to play was, in my opinion, very difficult.
I took the piano lessons for just two months - I "hired" him to teach me just that one song.
The lessons were at a locally owned, non-chain, music store. They sold and rented equipment and gave lessons.
Review of Service
It was just okay. The teacher I had was a retired musician from the Tampa Bay Orchestra. He had studied at Juliard and was, apparently, world-renowned. Not for his piano playing, but for his arrangements and writing of new, classical-type songs. He was pretty cocky and spent more time than I thought he should have "tooting his own horn" (to keep the music theme.......)
He was very hard on me, he acted like I was preparing to be some concert pianist - all I wanted to do was get through this wedding. He was harsh and short-tempered. I'm a grown woman and he made me feel like a little child - a couple of times I cried when I left the store.
It was all in all a very bad experience.
Tips
Make sure you interview the person who's actually going to be giving you the lessons, not just check out the store. My experience was that it was a lovely store, but I didn't care for the actual teacher. Depending on the size of the store, they may have several teachers who teach the same instrument - find one that fits your style.
